Maple Spice Syrup
To make your own maple spice syrup combine a 1/4 cup maple syrup, with 1 star anise (or 1 teaspoon anise extract), 1 cinnamon stick, 2 cloves ( or 1 & 1/2 teaspoons ground clove), and 1/4 cup water in a sauce pan. Bring the contents to a boil and let it steep for 30 minutes. Strain the syrup into an airtight container and refrigerate any unused portion.
