Technically a pie, the cheesecake has evolved over time. The origins may go as far back as ancient Greece. Variations of the classic recipe have traversed oceans gaining and losing many ingredients along its route. European style cheesecake may use ricotta cheese or mozzarella. For me, a former Brooklynite, cream cheese is the way to go. Here is a lovely cheesecake recipe, adding coffee to the classic mix. Enjoy!
Small and mighty: the history of coffee in modern El Salvador
Small and mighty, El Salvador is a force in the world of coffee. With perfect growing conditions, increasingly rare varietals, and a modern social history woven around the very vines their beans grow on, the history of modern El Salvador is the history of Salvadoran coffee.
Chocolate espresso ganache
The ganache, first seen in Paris at Maison Siraudin in the 1800s, is a lovely rich chocolate-cream combination, which depending on its thickness can be used in many ways. It may be served as a sauce, as a mousse, as a filling, rolled into truffles, or as a decadent icing. It is believed that the... Continue Reading →

Bow to the Queen – A Coffee & Cocktails with Cindy short
Sweet and golden in color, Drambuie liqueur is a mixture of scotch, honey, herbs, and spices, which when combined with coffee produce a remarkable cocktail. ‘Death before decaf’? If you still believe this, it’s time to refresh your data.
Decaffeinated coffee can be organic, naturally-processed, and delicious! Long gone are the days when the sole option to remove caffeine from a bean was chemical decaffeination. Long gone should be the days of decaf bashing.
Snickerdoodle latte
The snickerdoodle cookie is a perennial crowd-pleaser. For me, it will always evoke nostalgic childhood memories of baking with my mother. This recipe delivers that fresh from the oven snickerdoodle flavor in a luscious latte. Enjoy!
Keep the latte, lose the calories and fat
Pumpkin spice, maple spice, pecan, vanilla...however you take it, a good latte is delightful. A good latte can also be deceptively, unexpectedly caloric -- and fattening if you are topping off your sweet drink with a touch of whipped cream. Think I'm exaggerating? Let's get some perspective: a grande (16-ounce) Starbucks latte made with whole... Continue Reading →
Coffee-kat-shake
Call it a guilty pleasure, tell me it is for kids, I don't care. For me, there is nothing like the taste of a KitKat bar! I have been forced, once or twice, because of a demanding schedule, to pull a snack from a vending machine. I am unashamed to admit that if available, my hard-earned quarters go directly to A37 (that is where the KitKat bar was located at my previous job.) This recipe combines the flavors of that wonderful snack with coffee, and ice cream resulting in one of the most delicious milkshakes I have ever encountered! Enjoy, and try not to hum that jingle. I dare you!
The truth about coffee, cancer, and acrylamide
In 2018, a California judge ruled that coffee companies must post warnings about acrylamide in coffee. Shortly after, California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) reversed the ruling, stating that coffee does "not pose a significant risk of cancer"1. The United States Food and Drug Administration supported this decision, stating that warnings "would be... Continue Reading →
