Candy Corn coffee

The debate over whether candy corn is the best or worst of the Halloween treats has been raging for decades. Whether pro or con, one must admit that nothing evokes the Halloween spirit quite like that yellow, orange, and white candy. Here I have deconstructed those flavors and incorporated them into a sweet coffee treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of coffee
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1/2 tablespoon of light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Yellow and red food coloring
  • *4 ounces of steamed frothed milk, or whipped cream

Directions

1.) Combine honey, vanilla, water, and corn syrup in a small saucepan and heat until warm stirring constantly.

2.) Add this candy corn flavored syrup to the bottom of your mug.

3.) Fill your mug approximately 80-90% with strong coffee and stir.

4.) You can top your coffee with plain milk, frothed milk, or follow one of the two methods below to garnish your candy corn coffee with a candy corn design! Method 5 uses frothed milk; method 6 uses whipped cream.

5.) To complete your coffee with frothed milk, fill your cup to 90% with coffee. Add a teaspoon of powdered sugar to your milk stir and froth using the method of your choice. Hold back the foam and fill your mug with the steamed milk. Scoop a layer of foam on top of your mug. Add just enough yellow food coloring into the remaining froth so that you achieve the desired shade of yellow. Stir and then carefully add a ring of yellow froth around the edge of your mug. Add red food coloring into the remaining yellow froth to create a bright orange. Carefully add a ring of orange inside the yellow, leaving a center of white foam (the eye of the candy corn). You can use a toothpick to gently push the colors into the exact shape if needed.

6.) To complete your coffee with whipped cream, fill your mug approximately 80% with coffee and sprinkle the powdered sugar on top of your coffee. Then top the coffee with whipped cream in an approximate candy corn shape. Drop a dollop of whipped cream into a separate mixing bowl and combine with food coloring to create your desired shade of yellow. In a separate bowl mix up some orange. Using a pastry brush, paint the bottom of the whipped cream with yellow, next repeat the process with a layer of orange. Leave the top white and you now have a 3D candy corn topped candy corn coffee!

7.) Enjoy!
