Traditional Irish Coffee Recipe

“Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar and fat.” – A Levine.

Coffee, cream, whisky, and a touch of sweet brown sugar…few things beat the warm buzz of a traditional Irish Coffee on a crisp day. We hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do! This recipe makes one 8-ounce glass of Irish Coffee.

Step 1: Gently whisk or whip 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or double cream until the cream is airy but not stiff. The cream should be pourable.

Step 2: If you prefer a sweeter coffee, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of brown sugar to a heat-resistant glass; if you prefer a richer, milder sweetness, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of maple syrup to a heat-resistant glass.

Step 3: Brew one cup of coffee strongly (i.e., a slightly higher grounds-to-water ratio). If you enjoy a powerful whisky aroma, try using Irish Cream, Nutty Irishman, or Whisky Aged Coffee. Pour your coffee into your glass, until the glass is 75% full. Stir your glass contents until well-blended.

Step 4: Add 1.5 to 2 ounces of whisky to your glass.

Step 5: Using a spoon, flipped scoop side down (you want the liquid go flow over the soft curve of the spoon), pour your whisked cream over your spoon and into your glass.

Step 6: (Optional.) Top your drink with a dollop of whipped cream and / or a pinch of nutmeg.

Step 7: Enjoy!
